Total Trust
By George H. Gallup, Jr.
No employee can thrive in a corporate culture devoid of trust. Trust is one of the basic bonds of relationships. Trust is also one of the basic bonds of our relationship with God. The Bible records that the disciples of Jesus struggled with trusting him. While the disciples had seen Jesus do miracles, they weren't prepared to trust Christ for just everything.
Mark 8:14:21 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, and had only one loaf with them in the boat. "Be careful," Jesus warned them. "Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod."
They were discussing among themselves that they did not have any bread.
Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: ""Why are you discussing that you do not have any bread? Do you not yet understand or comprehend? Is your heart hardened? Do you have eyes, and not see, and do you have ears, and not hear? And do you not remember? When I broke the five loaves for the 5,000, how many baskets full of pieces of bread did you collect?"
"Twelve,"they told Him.
"When I broke the seven loaves for the 4,000, how many large baskets full of pieces of bread did you collect?" "Seven,"they said.
And He said to them, "Don’t you understand yet?"
In Business Terms
There's little difference in ethical behavior between the churched and the unchurched. There's as much pilferage and dishonesty among the churched as the unchurched. I'm afraid that applies pretty much across the board: religion, per se, is not really life changing. People cite it as important, for instance, in overcoming depression - but it doesn't have primacy in determining behavior.
Recently, for the Christian Broadcasting Network, we asked a series of questions on whether people rely more on human reason or on an outside power, such as God, for moral guidance and for planning for their future. More opted for human reason than for God, although less so among evangelicals. That shows that whatever people say about their beliefs, when they get right down to it, they are not totally prepared to trust God.
